Summary
Community News All parishioners are invited to a meeting on Wednesday at 7.30pm in Apperley Village Hall about the future of Deerhurst Church. The PCC is looking at how to provide a warmer welcome in the church, including the possibility of improving the heating and lighting, providing a toilet and better disabled access, and there are also plans to create a small chapel area under the St Alpege window. Your ideas will be very welcome. Please come along to the meeting or call Sheila Ryan on 01452 780107 for more information. Thank you to everyone who came along to the Cuppa and Cake Day last week and contributed so generously to the Alex Ross Star Appeal Fund for the Wallace & Gromit Grand Appeal for Bristol Children's Hospital. We raised over Pounds 250 for Alex's Star Appeal, which is a marvellous sum. It will be spent on equipment for the Children's Hospital where Alex was so well looked after during her time there. The Parish Players have reported that they were able to send Pounds 214 to Tewkesbury Hospital from the raffle and to give the Village Hall Pounds 350 from the ticket sales at their village pantomime in December. The Friends of Deerhurst Church are looking for a volunteer to look after their pamphlets. The publications of the annual lectures are on sale in St Mary's Deerhurst. They need a volunteer who would be able to visit the church frequently to look after the books and pamphlets, and to keep a stock available for topping up. For more details contact Joy Marshall on 01242 680409.

We had a number of interesting events taking place in the near future including; various lunches, Theatre Trips both the Malvern and Tewkesbury, a visit to see the snowdrops in Cirencester and ladies day at Cheltenham Racecourse. We had received some thank you letters from the Acorns Children's Hospice and the Air Ambulance to thank us for donations we had made to these charities last year. We were reminded about group skittles due to be held on February 25, skittles with partners with a bring and share supper at the Dumbleton Club on February 4 starting at 7.15pm. Both the Book Club and Scrabble evenings were being planned already with a lot of interest in both. We were asked if any of us were interested in attending and Emergency First Aid in the Home course scheduled for March and members were asked to sign up the cost would be about Pounds 6 per person for a two-hour session. Unfortunately, our scheduled speaker for this evening had suffered a puncture on-route on the Fosseway and had been unable to make this evening's meeting. We rounded off the evening with refreshments and with members signing up for the many events that were on offer over the coming months. The raffle was won by Maureen Stocks.
