Chipping Campden Hilary Sinclair 01386 848843Madison Cooper- Jones has been chosen as this year's Scuttlebrook Wake Queen at a disco at the town hall. Her attendants will be Jasmine and Jessica Ash, Isabel Shore and Henrietta Newman. The page is eightyear- old Sean Bennett. Scuttlebrook Wake this year is on Saturday, June 4.The current display at the Court Barn Museum on Harry Warmington, silversmith has received a lot of attention. Not only have people who knew harry come forward and lent items to the museum for display but it has also been featured on Radio Gloucestershire. At the moment the museum is commissioning a limited edition of 12 bronze Naiads, one of which will be retained by the museum for the collection.Tomorrow night (March 1) the town's film society will be showing El Secreto de sus Ochos 2009 (The Secret in their Eyes), a Spanish film with English sub titles and winner of the 2009 scar for the best foreign language film. In 1999 while writing a novel based on an old closed case of rape and murder, which he investigated as a court official 20 years earlier, Benjamin Sposito is still troubled by the outcome and decides to interview key figures again to try to identify the real culprit. The film will be shown at the Court Room in the Old Police Station, doors open at 7.30pm and the film starts at 8pm. Tickets at the door Pounds 4.Adrian Mac, a presenter on the North Cotswold Community radio at the Old Police Station has been honoured with the MEB. Adrian is a tireless charity worker and has spent 22 years presenting hospital radio in his home town of Redditch. He joined NCCR's roster of volunteers last year to host the mac Attack show on Saturday and Sunday evenings and it has proved a great favourite with listeners. Adrian has suffered from cerebral palsy from birth but despite restricted use of his right arm he has not allowed his disability to stand in the way of working for others. He is waiting to discover when he will be attending Buckingham Palace for his investiture. NCCR station chairman Robb Eden said "Adrian serves as a shining example to us all". Ashchurch Diana Bailey 01 684 292653 bailey-d3@sky.comFirst the good news. Now you know why your parish councillors have been seen with wide grins on their faces. Count Me In, who have provided the majority of the funding for our forthcoming MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) asked us not to disclose the proposed project until everything was settled, thus avoiding disappointment if it didn't come to fruition. Your parish council has applied for funding for several years so were overjoyed when we finally succeeded. The unit is due to be started in March and should, weather permitting, be completed April/May. At the same time soil from the work will be used to enlarge and enhance the BMX humps. Also included in the project are four pieces of outdoor gym equipment. Now the bad news, I understand we are going to lose or at best have curtailed the services of our youth workers, what a terrible shame. They have and are doing wonderful work with our young people. The conditions they have worked in have far surpassed their duty we are all very much in their debt.St Nicholas Church is setting up a small lending library of Christian books. If you have any you could donate the will be gladly welcomed. The total raised/ donated for the repair work on the east end of church has now reached Pounds 7736. Churchdown Marguerite Hazell 01452 713919On December 17, Jenny Cotton from St John's Church, felt privileged to join a team of seven volunteers from all over the county on an Operation Christmas Child Discovery Team to Belarus. Since so many people in Churchdown, of all age groups, happily filled shoe boxes, it seems a good idea to report and share her experience. During their travels they visited an Education and Rehabilitation Centre for 10 handicapped children, a Sanatorium for children with poor eyesight, another in a woodland setting for those with chest and lung disorders, Pentecostal churches, Sunday schools and a large village school where entertainment for the DCC Team was provided by older pupils. In Jenny's own words: "We helped distribute 825 filled shoe boxes, and it was just like handing each child a treasure chest, language was no barrier - sign language and lots of hugs said it all! Sadly, there weren't enough boxes, but this wasn't a problem as the children simply shared what they had been given and each volunteer had taken extra gifts which helped to supplement the shortfall. For most of the children it was their first ever gift which was really humbling. Belarus is a lovely country and despite their impoverished lives, the people were very welcoming".The Chernobyl Children's Project held an ABBAsolutely 70's Disco on January 19 from 7.30pm to 11pm at Wall's Social Club, Barnwood with prizes for the best costumes, tickets Pounds 6 and under 16's free. It was a very successful event with over 100 attending and raised Pounds 590 towards bringing children to the UK for a summer holiday, a practice which has taken place for the past 12 years. Two more host families are needed for 2011. If you can help Helen Marcus, tel: 855890, would love to hear from you. After all this time there is still an enormous amount of radiation present and, sadly, babies are born with disabilities.Planning applications have been received for:Erection of single dwelling, including alterations to existing vehicular and pedestrian access at "Oundle", Pirton Lane.Proposed first floor rear extension to provide living accommodation at 213 Pirton Lane.Proposed two story side extension and a single storey rear extension to the rear to provide additional living space at 2 Eastcott Way.Plans can be inspected at Churchdown Parish Council Offices, Parton Road, 9.15am- 1pm weekdays.Workshops run by Parentline Plus, which started last September, continue and are open to any parent whose children attend a school in Churchdown, Innsworth or Shurdington. Between M arch 1-29, five morning sessions entitled "Getting on with your child" are being held at Innsworth Infant School, Luke Lane, open to parents with primary aged children. To establish if there are spaces, call Emma Evans on 07760 290709. Whittington Carol White 01242 820916 carol@bobwhite.fastmail.co.ukA village meeting was held on Wednesday, February 16 and it was nice to see such a good turn out of people. We were pleased to meet our county councillor Fiona McKenzie, who was very approachable and informative with regards to village issues. Bullet points from the meeting can be found on Whittington's website www.sites.google. com/site/ whittingtonvillageThere is now a supply of doggie bags available, these are being stored to the rear of the village hall, in order that the village be kept clean and mess free.Plans are already under way for the annual Whittington show, which will be held on Saturday, September 3 this year. If anyone would like to volunteer to help on the day or if you have any ideas for this year's show, then please contact Saskia Sullivan on 01242 821058.Whittington Lodge Farm's new buildings are progressing well and if anyone would like to have a look around, then please feel free to contact Kathy Boyd and have a guided tour. There is soon to be another consultation process regarding rural bus services which have come under scrutiny during this period of cutbacks as have many other services. Hopefully everyone will have a chance to take part in the consultation which is expected to be in March. More detail s to follow when available. We have some lovely drifts of snowdrops in the village and when I recently walked up to the top of our garden to take a picture of some I was lucky enough to meet our resident dog fox. I know he probably has one eye on our chickens but he really is a very beautiful sight. On March 16 from 6pm- 8pm one session "How to help your children grow up feeling confident", open to parents with children aged 11 plus, is to take place at Churchdown School. Contact Karen James to book on 07976 436891.Also, on March 16, an Art Workshop-Knitting is being held at Churchdown School from 9.30am- 11am. To book, give Laura Abraham a call on 07595 710003. Twyning Mary Haines 01684 293686The village hall management AGM was very well attended on Tuesday. The chairman, Libby Flackett, reported the management committee to have been working under a false premise for much of the last decade believing the hall would be sold in order to provide capital towards a new hall. Many areas of the building have suffered as a result from lack of other than essential maintenance. After a village open meeting in April of last year it was revealed that not enough people voted to comply with the trust deed to permit the selling of the hall. Since that time many had aired feelings that a new hall build should still go ahead. The stalemate was brought to a head with the parish council over seeing the formation of a steering committee to resolve the issue in at the request of the hall the management committee. The resultant village vote favoured refurbishment of the present hall. Lack of funds finally led the hall management committee to disband the New Village Hall Development Committee.

The Chairman referred to the work undertaken by the newly formed Friends group to give the hall a quick fix face lift until such time that the greater needs of capital refurbishment can be implemented with anticipated help from Tewkesbury Borough Council.Special thanks were expressed to Tim Hawkins on his retirement from the committee after 25years of loyal service. Only Maggie Ball, leader of the Friends and recently co-opted to the committee stood for reelection. The out going treasurer, Jeremy Horsfall apologised for not having had the accounts audited in time for the meeting. They were however accepted on the proviso that the audit is completed before handing over to the newly elected Treasurer Maggie Ball in March. The voting went 11/8 in favour of acceptance with 10 abstentions. The hall was reported to have incurred a running loss of Pounds 2,938.13 over the last financial year.

Closure for a period after the heating system failure last year, causing some user organisations moving elsewhere as a result, were indicated to have been partially to blame for this situation. An overall reduction in assets from Pounds 28,184 in December 2009 to Pounds 15,342.72 December 2010 does not paint a pretty picture. Approximately Pounds 20,000 of this loss occurred as a direct result of unrestricted funding being made available for the New Hall project. The newly-elected committee consists of Maggie Ball Treasurer, Christine Skelton Secretary, Jane Bowers, Brian Last and John Reynolds. A sixth vacancy remained unfilled. The chairman will be elected by the committee at its first meeting.A hard task lies ahead for the newly elected committee over the next few months or years so all our support and help will be appreciated. Parish council meeting takes place tonight in the Ann Townend Hall at 8pm. Note the change of venue. Tewkesbury Evelyn Ley 01684 290116 jigsawtewkesbury@yahoo.co.ukTewkesbury based Severn Unit Maritime Volunteer Service are now well into their winter programme of training and over the last few weeks members have been busy studying such subjects as tidal curves, chartwork and message taking. At their meeting on February 15 the unit was addressed by Rob Carr who is the broker at Tewkesbury Marina and they all spent an interesting evening hearing about how a boat broker operates and Rob kindly answered the many questions which were raised. The whole evening was rounded off with a pizza supper and it was a very pleasant occasion indeed.Sadly the unit had their box trailer broken into earlier in the month and had their nearly new Seago inflatable dinghy and other equipment stolen including boat hooks and pumps.

Their Gemini inflatable was dragged out of the trailer and abandoned sustaining damage during the incident which cannot be repaired. Members work hard to raise funds to run their boats and it is a poor show when this charity who's members are always on hand to help out locally at times of emergency have been targeted by thieves. The unit meets on Monday evenings and new members are assured of a warm welcome and further details may be obtained from Nic Price on 07814 913995.
