I SEE Bredon rector Matthew Baynes says stories about MPs' expenses must stop or the British way of life will be threatened (Echo, July 1). Mr Baynes is correct in what he says, but whilst those at the top are still acting irresponsibly the general public is entitled to know the facts, surely? If it hadn't been for the media, we would know nothing about the widespread abuse by those who should have been setting an example and were being entrusted with spending the public purse wisely.
All trust has gone and it will take a lot more than gagging the media to ever begin to restore that trust. Trust is earned and once lost never regained fully. Accountability is going to be a very important word, I feel, in the near future.See the full content of this document
