"This busy and very picturesque town is situated in a most charming portion of Gloucestershire, and the valley along to Brimscombe is dotted with thriving factories, so placed that they in no way hinder or obstruct the beauty of the landscape. Stroud is a progressive town and visitors will be delighted with its beautiful surroundings". Written over 60 years ago, the description remains true to the present day.
