WHAT away to begin 2012 with Champion Court winning at Cheltenham in front of a record crowd on New Year's Day, and also live on Channel 4. There is no better place to win than at Cheltenham and not only was his success in the Pony Club Raceday Novices' Chase our first winner there over fences, it was our 28th winner of the season and took us past our best-ever total of 27 - it was also jockey Alain Cawley's first Cheltenham winner. Champ clearly loves Prestbury Park having already won a G1 rade Two hurdle there, finishing fourth in the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle at the Festival and this season finishing second and third over fences before winning on Sunday.

I decided to change the way we rode Champ this time after dropping him in and getting him settled on his last two runs, which have seen him caught a bit flat-footed.
