Surely the More Trees the Better ; Letters

Summary

WITH regard to your report 'Anger at tree planting bid' on August 8 about a request by St Philip and St James Area Residents' Association to plant more trees in Gratton Road, Leckhampton. I find it sad that some residents of Cheltenham profess an active dislike of trees. Trees are amazing beings that can outlive humans by many years, even centuries. They rest our eyes with greenness, cool the air in summer, and provide us with oxygen to breathe all year round. They provide habitat for a myriad of creatures, from birds right down to the insects that feed those birds. An oak tree can spend 300 years growing, 300 years just being, and a final 300 years dying.

Not only that, it is a host for well over 350 different species of creature. Surely the least we can do in return is to understand, nurture and cherish such trees and others like them.
