Summary
Review THE WHITE HORSE Staunton, nr Coleford, Forest of Dean RH Hotels may have turned the White Horse mellow yellow in a year-long refurbishment, but it's well worth the journey to Forest of Dean to dine at the last pub in England, which dates back to 1813. As a pub on the border between England and Wales, it could be forgiven for having a bit of an identity crisis.
Yet, Hayley Scotford and John Carter know exactly what they are trying to achieve and, within a few months of arriving, they have deservedly built up a reputation for serving up good food in relaxed surroundings. John and Hayley cut their teeth at the well-regarded Saracens Head in Symonds Yat, where he was head chef and she was in charge of front-of-house. Now they have taken over the White Horse and Hayley has made sure there is a warm hearth with open fire to welcome old regulars as well as new diners. The kitchens may be serving up restaurant standard food, but Hayley is still hosting occasional pub quizzes and other events on some week nights.See the full content of this document
