In Praise of Strong and Independent Women

Summary

COUTTS has always nurtured strong and independent women, as the bank's history reflects. The granddaughter of founder Thomas Coutts, Angela Burdett-Coutts, had the luxury of financial independence, having inherited the family fortune in 1837. She decided to devote her life to philanthropic work and in 1871 was recognised by Queen Victoria for her contribution to society. She became the first woman to be made a Baroness in her own right. Today, Coutts continues to attract and nurture high net worth women and has been providing an expert wealth management service to many successful female clients across Gloucestershire for a number of years. Given the growing number of female entrepreneurs and high-earning professionals, Coutts recognises that this is a key market. "While Coutts does not differentiate between the service offered to men and women, we are aware that women may have different personal and financial priorities and aim to specifically tailor our service to meet the needs of these clients, ensuring that we have female private bankers in most of our offices," explained Kate Turner, head of private banking. "We opened our Cheltenham office just over a year ago, in response to the growing number of wealthy individuals in the region. Our team at Bayshill Road recognises that successful women have a large part to play in the growth of Coutts within Gloucestershire."

Coutts also recognises that one of the key issues facing professional women is the lack of time they have to juggle many commitments, including family life, and so by understanding their individual requirements, the bank offers a range of tailored services to make their financial management as smooth as possible.
