Summary
This is a county born of skills, particularly specialist engineering, which saw the birth in Gloucester of Sir Frank Whittle's jet engine. Since then, a large part of the southern end of the county, going into Bristol, has in recent years been at the leading edge of aerospace technology. We believe we again need to develop engineering and technical skills relevant to the jet engine and aerospace technology. That is why our newspapers have developed a campaign with Gloucestershire College to encourage firms to recruit a hundred apprentices in one hundred days.
