The economy of this country would be greatly helped if the fiendishly complicated income tax and benefit system was to be scrapped and replaced with a much simpler system.
Give everybody a basic allowance, determined by one's individual circumstances. Tax all income (excluding savings), in 10 per cent and pounds10,000 increments, up to a maximum of 50 per cent (from a base level of pounds10,000 up to pounds60,000 and above). Scrap all other income taxes and existing forms of benefit and replace them with one form of benefit paid out to everyone whose income falls below their basic allowance.See the full content of this document
