ALCOHOL is clearly a major factor in Winchcombe pensioner Robert Fowler's difficulties with the law. He may have been genuinely remorseful over his attack on an ambulance worker who went to his home to help him. But he has a history of similar attacks, with booze clearly playing its part.

Magistrate Philip Judge said he had never sentenced a 67-year- old man to prison before - but he had little choice.
