INVOLVING youngsters in the magic of growing can be the start of a lifelong love of gardening. Staff at 3Shires Garden Centre are well aware that plenty of celebrity gardeners attribute their enthusiasm to being shown how to grow things at an early age. The centre, at Newent, organises regular activities to encourage children to become involved in growing things.

Tony Bryan, manager of 3Shires, says that the key to creating excitement and interest in gardening is to organise crops or flowers that sprout in as short a time as possible and getting them 'hands on' in the fun and messy stuff that is all part of the overall experience of gardening.
