Summary
THE Echo's story "Housing demand is out of order" (August 14) is bang on - Gloucestershire needs 56,000 houses like a hole in the head.
It's the Westminster Government that is out of order with its intention to dump three million houses on England by 2030 - and this is just the tip of the iceberg. Since 1999 devolution, Westminster now controls local government, planning and housing only in England, having no authority in the self-governing devolved Celtic countries, so middle/southern England is its dumping ground. It has hived off large chunks of England's governance to treacherous quangos, government stooge departments, who though taking the blame, gleefully plan the concreting of England, betraying the people who pay and elect them. Even if 50,000 planned homes in Gloucestershire were abandoned, they would be dumped elsewhere in middle/southern England since Westminster just plays off one English region against another. If such proposals were thrust on any Celtic country, its whole devolved governance would tell Westminster where to go. But England has no self-governance and is at the mercy of a subjugating UK Government and its self-indulging UK parties. Martin Horwood wants South West England's local authorities to champion their constituents by ignoring the Regional Spatial Strategy's grotesque proposals, and so they should, since we elect and pay them to look after our well-being.See the full content of this document
