Summary


Rather than moan over the dinner table or rant at the television when a politician is talking, people could do something. I put myself forward as a candidate in the county elections, and though unsuccessful, the experience has not put me off.

I met a number of residents while canvassing; the vast majority were happy to discuss their concerns, which ranged from a pensioner getting an additional 25p per week (we both agreed that 25p is a little insulting) to parents not being able to get their children into the local school. I did meet some rude people but they were angry about the Westminster expenses and decided to tar me with the same brush.
