DOUGLAS Equipment Ltd in Village Road, Arle, received one Queen's Award for innovation and the other for international trade - one of only three companies throughout the UK to achieve such outstanding success this year.

The company employs 124 people, including 10 apprentices, and over 60 years has become the market leader with its range of aircraft towing tractors, remote controlled aircraft handlers and runway friction measuring machines. Douglas Equipment exports more than 80 per cent of its products worldwide, and won the innovation award for designing and making equipment for manoeuvring helicopters on board ships. Managing director Lee Brewis said they were delighted.
