Gloucestershire Echo, The
FREE dyslexia assessments are being offered in Gloucestershire as part of Dyslexia Awareness Week. Jill Ruddle, who now lives in the county after running a dyslexia centre for eight years in Sheffield, is behind the scheme, which will be offered in the first week of November.

THUG Timothy Jeffries is facing a possible prison sentence after he fractured a man's skull in a late-night attack in Cheltenham High Street. Jeffries, 22, admitted punching Joseph Perry to the ground, causing him grievous bodily harm, when he appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court on Monday.
THE owners of the new garden centre at the former Hurrans site think that Churchdown is right at the heart of its success. The Cheltenham Road East centre officially re-opened at the end of last month with new owners and a new name after being closed for eight months.
Police Crack Down On Driving Offences
POLICE officers in unmarked cars have been running an operation to catch motorists who are speeding or driving unroadworthy vehicles. Operation Vortex aimed to improve the behaviour of motorists, as well as reduce collisions and possible injuries on the road.
FORMER postman Glenn Barrett says he is determined to achieve his ambition of launching a secondhand furniture store in Cheltenham. A WHEELCHAIR rugby match between Gloucester Rugby and National Star College students had to be cancelled. It is expected the match, which was postponed last minute due to players being unavailable, will take place at a later date. It had been due to take place yesterday at the Ullenwood site.
Sheppard to Attempt Record Breaking Swim ; Swimming
SWIMMER Rebecca Sheppard of Tewkesbury Swimming Club is through to the penultimate qualification round to be part of the youngest relay team to swim the English Channel. The Bristol English Channel Swim Team (B.E.S.T.) offered young swimmers in the Gloucestershire area the opportunity to trial for a team of six swimmers who will swim the English Channel in August 2010.

ST PETER'S School pupil Seth Wilkinson has completed a fine 2009 Jet Ski Championship season. The Championships, run by the Jet Sport Racing Association of Great Britain, have seen 16-year-old Wilkinson competing in six rounds across the country.
TEASINGLY light winds tested the youths of Gloucestershire on Sunday as the four Frampton juniors in British Moths sailed away with the three top spots and a mid-fleet result. A total entry of 20 boats of seven different classes made for interesting racing with good results for the smaller boats.

STROUD youngster Shannon Crewe enjoyed a athletics masterclass with World Championship finalist David Greene after winning a place on the Aviva UKA Academy regional training programme. Crewe, 13, from Archway School, was one of a handful of youngsters in attendance as Greene passed on tips at a session at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff.

FAME fever hit Cheltenham as the re-make of the '80s classic opened at Cineworld.
